Wall Safe
A Wall Safe is designed to provide hidden protection for documents and miscellaneous valuables. They derive their protection characteristics from being harder to find and because they are fastened into place. Typically they are designed to fit between 16" o/c wall studs.

Media Vault
Today's data storage devices (tape, disks, CD's) can be damaged in a fire at temperatures below safe ratings and they can be damaged by the moisture content that fire safes employ in their protection. Therefore, to protect data the best, a media vault should be used for these medias. The fire rating is one hour stand when placed inside a one hour fire safe.

Gun Safes
The best advice with Gun Safes is "do it and that's all". It will increase the safety of your family, and guns are one of the hottest items to steal (right after cash and jewelry). The main issue is capacity - how many and what kind (pistol or rifle). A couple of examples for you:

Pistol Safe Amsec PB48
(OD 4x12x8)
$195.00
Gun Safe Amsec 6032-LG-F-BY-A
(OD 60Hx30Wx21D)
$2,665.00

General Info
One safe is not just like another! There are two main groupings - Burglar safes and Fire safes. Burglar safes are designed to keep people out of them. Certainly any locked container is more secure than nothing. However, there are a variety of measures that increase security. Burglar safes are listed by Ratings based on how they are constructed and on the amount of time it takes a bad guy to get into them. Typically this is achieved thru types and thickness of metal. The location of a safe increases its security, as does its lack of portability (maybe it needs to be fastened into location).

Unfortunately, metal does little to protect contents against fire. Fire safes are listed by Ratings on the amount of time the safe will protect its contents against fire. Location is again important here. If a safe falls thru a wooden floor that has burned and cracks open, the fire will consume the contents. Ultimately, you need to determine what it is you will place in a safe (how big does it need to be), and who will have access to it (maybe you need more than one), and what you want to protect against.
